Winners of 63rd National Film Awards


The 63rd National Film Awards were announced on 28-03-2016, with honours going to Amitabh Bachchan for the Shoojit Sircar-directed Piku and Kangana Ranaut for Tanu Weds Manu Returns.
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali won the best director award for Bajirao Mastani, while S.S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali bagged the best picture award.

Here are the other winners:
- Best Tamil Film is Visaranai . The film also bagged the awards in Best Editing and Best Supporting Actor (Samuthirakani) categories.
- Best Sanskrit Film is Priyamanasam
- Best Hindi Film award goes to Dum Laga Ke Haisha
- Best Background score award goes to Ilayarajaa for Thara Thappattai . This is Ilayarajaa's fifth national award.
- Special Jury Award award goes to Kalki Koechlin for playing a girl with cerebral palsy in 'Margarita With A Straw'
- Best Song: "Kaathirunnu" by Jayachandran in Ennum Ninte Moideen
- Best Choreography Award goes to Remo D'Souza for Bajirao Mastani
- Special Mention award for Ritika Singh for her role in Irudhi Suttru
- Best popular film award goes to Bajrangi Bhaijaan, starring Salman Khan
- Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Director goes to Neeraj Ghaywan for Masaan
- Best Film on Social Issues is Nirnayakam
- Best Telugu Film award goes to Kanche
- Best Kannada Film is Thithi
- Best Malayalam Film is Pathemaari, starring Mamooty
- Best Supporting Actress award goes to Tanvi Azmi for Bajirao Mastani
- Best Screenplay Writer (Original) award goes to Juhi Chaturvedi (Piku) and Himanshu Sharma (Tanu Weds Manu Returns)

Admissions for August, 2016
  • Applications for August, 2016 are open. Look up the Application Procedure for details on how to apply. The last date for handing in completed forms is Friday, April 15, 2016.
  • For CMI's PhD programmes, you can also qualify for the interview by writing national level exams such as JEST and NBHM. Specific details are give below, at the bottom of this page.

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science:    B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc.(C.S.)/M.C.A.

How to Apply
When admissions are open, you may apply online or request a printed application form, either by post or in person.
For all the programmes, applicants will have to take an entrance examination on Wednesday, 18 May 2016. The entrance examination centres for 2016 are as follows: Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Calicut, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Indore, Kolkata, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Ranchi, Shillong, Silchar, Srinagar and Trivandrum.
Selection for all Ph.D. programmes will involve an interview at Chennai. For all other programmes, interviews will be at the discretion of the Admissions Committee—the Committee may call shortlisted candidates for an interview depending on their prior academic record.
All students receive handsome scholarships that meet all expenses. B.Sc. (Hons.) students receive a scholarship of Rs. 4000 per month, M.Sc. students receive a scholarship of Rs. 6000 per month and Ph.D. scholarships start at Rs. 25000 per month. Students of B.Sc. (Hons.) also receive an additional monthly scholarship of Rs. 1000, made possible through generous private donations. Students of M.Sc. and Ph.D. also receive supplementary scholarships made possible through private contributions.

Qualify for PhD Mathematics via NBHM
 
Candidates applying to the PhD programme in Mathematics at CMI for the academic year starting August 2016 can qualify for the interview without writing the CMI entrance examination if they are been awarded the NBHM PhD Fellowship.
If you wish to apply to the PhD programme in Mathematics at CMI through this channel, you should fill out the CMI application form in full detail and pay the application fee. After you fill out the form, send an email to phdmath2016@cmi.ac.in attaching a scanned copy of your NBHM scorecard along with your BSc and MSc academic transcripts.
If you qualify directly for the interview based on your performance in these exams, you will receive a notification from the Admissions Committee. If you do not hear from us, you must write the CMI entrance examination in order to qualify.

Qualify for PhD Computer Science via JEST-2016
Candidates applying to the PhD programme in Computer Science at CMI for the academic year starting August 2016 can qualify for the interview on the basis of their performance in the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2016) in Theoretical Computer Science, without writing the CMI entrance examination.
If you have written JEST-2016 and wish to apply to the PhD programme in Computer Science at CMI, you should fill out the CMI application form in full detail and pay the application fee. After you fill out the form, send an email to phdcs2016@cmi.ac.in to inform us that you have also written JEST.
If you qualify directly for the interview based on your performance in JEST-2016, You will receive a notification from the Admissions Committee. If you do not hear from us, you must write the CMI entrance examination in order to qualify.

Qualify for PhD Physics via JEST-2016
Candidates applying to the PhD programme in Physics at CMI for the academic year starting August 2016 can qualify for the interview on the basis of their performance in the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2016) in Physics without writing the CMI entrance examination. Only candidates within the top 300 ranks will qualify through this category.
If you wish to apply to the PhD programme in Physics at CMI through this channel, you should fill out the CMI application form in full detail and pay the application fee. After you fill out the form, send an email to phdphy2016@cmi.ac.in attaching a scanned copy of your JEST scorecard.
If you qualify directly for the interview based on your performance in these exams, you will receive a notification from the Admissions Committee. If you do not hear from us, you must write the CMI entrance examination in order to qualify.

Summer Research Program on Dynamics of Complex Systems

This program is first-of-its-kind in India with a specific focus to provide research experience and training to highly motivated students and young researchers in the interdisciplinary field of complex dynamical systems theory that has applications in diverse fields in science and engineering, such as the study of biological systems, atmosphere and oceans, materials and structures, economics and social systems, archaeology and anthropology, languages, and many others.
The specific theme for summer-2016 program is "Geophysical Phenomena".
We especially encourage early graduate students, postdocs, and early faculty to apply for participation. Applications from exceptional advanced undergraduate students may also be considered, depending on their level of preparation.
This two month long program will consist of the following activities:
  • 23 May - 04 June: Two-week preparatory summer school. Details of lecturers and topics are given below.
  • 23 May - 23 July: Two-month summer research program. A few selected fellows will get a chance to work on a project mentored by an expert in mathematical modeling of geophysical phenomena.
  • 18 - 23 July: One-week discussion meeting. The fellows will present their work during the summer, along with talks by other researchers. Considerable time will be reserved for discussions.
  • Throughout the summer months, we will also have active seminar series on various mathematical and physical aspects of earth sciences

Travel and local support is available for all the above categories. Furthermore, the fellows selected for the summer research project will receive an honorarium.
