The aim of this school is to provide an overview on different topics in Nonlinear Dynamics to the final year Masters and Ph.D. students.There will be a few review talks starting from basics to advanced level by experts on selected topics.

DST - SERB - National Post Doctoral Fellowship (N-PDF)

National Post Doctoral Fellowship (N-PDF)

Objective:
The SERB-National Post Doctoral Fellowship (N-PDF) is aimed to identify motivated young researchers and provide them support for doing research in frontier areas of science and engineering. The fellows will work under a mentor, and it is hoped that this training will provide them a platform to develop as an independent researcher.


Eligibility:
  • The applicant should be an Indian citizen.
  • The applicant should hold Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering or M.D or M.S degree in any area of medicine.
  • The applicant must have obtained Ph.D/M.D/M.S degree from a recognized University, not before two years from the date of application. Those who have submitted their PhD/M.D/M.S thesis and are awaiting award of the degree are also eligible to apply. However, such candidates, if selected, will be offered lower fellowship amount till they are awarded the eligible degree.
  • The upper age limit for the fellowship is 35 years at the time of the submission of application. Age relaxation of 5 (five) years will be given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged & Women candidates.
Nature & Duration of Support:
  • The fellowship is tenable only in India and can be implemented in any of the recognized academic institutions, national laboratories and other recognized R & D institutions. The host institution should provide necessary administrative and infrastructural support.
  • The fellowship is normally not availed at the same institution where the candidates have earned their PhD/M.S/M.D degree or with the doctoral thesis supervisor or continue on doctoral thesis work.
  • The fellowship is purely a temporary assignement, and is tenable initially for a period of 2 years. In exceptional cases, depending on the progress of research, the fellowship can be extended for one more year, There is no provision to extend the tenure beyond three.
  • The fellows will be entitled to receive the grants as given below:

    1 Fellowship Rs. 55,000/- per month (consolidated) and Rs. 35,000/ p.m for candidates who have submitted the thesis but degree not awarded
    2 Research Grant Rs. 2,00,000/- per annum
    3 Overheads Rs. 1,00,000/- per annum
  • Research grant can be used for purchasing minor equipments, consumables, national travel and contingencies. There is no provision for providing manpower under this scheme. The Fellow is expected to undertake research himself/herself during the entire duration of the fellowship.
  • The fellows are not eligible to receive any other fellowship from any Government or Non-Governmental source during the tenure of the fellowship
  • The fellows must seek the consent of SERB if he/she intends to be away from the implementing institute (except for field work related to the project) continuously for a period more than eight weeks.
Selection & Mode Of Application 
  • The call for applications for SERB-N PDF will be notified twice a year(September and March) through the website www.serbonline.in and www.serb.gov.in
  • The application form along with a research proposal highlighting the objectives of the research work to be undertaken should be submitted online through the website www.serbonline.in
  • The applicant must identify a suitable Mentor under whom the proposed research would be carried out.
  • The selection will be based on the recommendations of an Expert Committee that will be constituted by the Board. If required, the applicants may be called for personal interview.
How to apply online:
For successful online submission of the application the following points may be noted:
  • Applicants should first register into the online website   click here to register
  • After log-in, applicants are required to fill all the mandatory fields in Profile Detail section under User Profile. which includes Bio-data, Photo, Institute Address etc.
  • Details including Project Title (max 500 characters), Project summary (max 3000 characters), Keywords (max 6), Objectives of project (max 1500 characters), Expected output and outcome of the proposal (max 1500 characters) should be provided online at the time of submission of the application.
  • Work Methodology and Research plan has to be uploaded in single PDF file not more than 10 MB

Termination of the Fellowship
  • If any fellow wishes to terminate the fellowship, he/she shall inform the SERB through the mentor and host institute immediately. The implementing institute should not incur any expenditure from the date of termination of the project or the date of resignation of PI. The institute will also arrange for submission of documents mentioned above.
  • SERB reserves the right to terminate the Fellowship at any stage if it is convinced that appropriate progress is not being made or the grant has not been utilized properly.
Leave
SERB PDFs are entitled to leave as per rules of the host institution. Participation in scientific workshops held in India or abroad will be treated as on duty. Maternity leave as per the Govt. of India instructions issued from time to time would be available to female candidates in all categories.

Science Academies' Summer Research Fellowship Programme for Students and Teachers(SRFP) 2016

The three national Science Academies offer several two-month Summer Fellowships to enable students/teachers (studying/teaching in India) to work with scientists associated with the three Academies during 2016. A copy of the application format, instructions to applicants including eligibility criteria, and a list of names of scientists/faculty who have consented to guide students/teachers to work on short-term projects is displayed at the websites of the Academies[www.ias.ac.in;www.insaindia.org and www.nasi.org.in].
Applications are invited from interested students and teachers from all universities and colleges affiliated to UGC/AICTE/MCI/Accredited Institutions of State Universities for these Fellowships. The application should include: (a) the application form in the prescribed format; (b) scanned copies of mark sheets from class X to lst examination; (c) a write-up (in about 150 - 250 words) as to what the applicant wants to learn and achieve;  (d) names of potential guides with whom the applicant would like to work. Student applicants should also provide the email id of one their teachers or HoD familiar with their work. The Academies will approach them for a recommendation letter in the prescribed format. The selected candidate should work with the assigned guide for two months any time during the calendar year, preferably during the summer.
Applications should be submitted by logging onto one of our websites given above. The registration number assigned soon after the online submission must be quoted in all future correspondence.

The last date for receipt of online applications is 30 November 2015.
Information of selection along with concurrence of the guide will be despatched around February–March 2016. The selected students/teachers will be provided appropriate round trip train fare and a monthly fellowship to meet their living expenses at the place of work.

S.N.Bose Scholars Program


To nurture future innovators and thought leaders, the Science & Engineering Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and WINStep Forward have partnered to support a dynamic and transformative student exchange program between premier institutions in India and the United States. The program is named in honor of Satyendra Nath Bose (1894 - 1974), a visionary Indian physicist best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s. The class of particles that obey Bose-Einstein statistics, Bosons, was named after him.

The program is envisaged to:
  • provide an opportunity to Indian students to experience world-class research facilities in leading U.S. institutions;
  • encourage and motivate students to take up research as a career;
  • pave the way for the next generation of pioneers and innovators in science and technology to interact with each other, and;
  • build long-term R&D linkages and collaborations cutting across boundaries around the globe.
Eligibility:
  • Indian citizens currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters' degree at a recognized institution of higher education and learning in India.
  • Open to students of Atmospheric and Earth Sciences; Chemical Sciences; Engineering Sciences; Mathematical and Computational Sciences; and, Physical Sciences
Note: Students with a biology background should consider applying to the Khorana Program for Scholars.

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP)


Now open for applications for 2016 : The CSFP is aimed at students of Commonwealth countries who can make a significant contribution to their home country after the completion of a higher education programme in the UK.
This is a source of funding made available to all Commonwealth countries by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission.

LEVEL OF COURSES:
One year Taught Master's courses or equivalent degree
Doctoral degree of up to three years duration.
The CSFP is an annual scheme made available to all the Commonwealth countries by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission. In India, this is jointly managed by:

Eligibility Scholarship

Selection
The preliminary selection of candidates for scholarships is carried out in India by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Department of Education, and Government of India.
The preliminary selection is done through a process of shortlisting of applications, followed by personal interviews in New Delhi.
