Prime Minister’s Fellowship Scheme for Doctoral Research
Jointly promoted by Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB) &
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)
Introduction
In the Year of Science, to attract talent for Doctoral Research and to boost industrial research by academic institutions, the government and industry have jointly developed a scheme to provide double scholarships to PhD Fellows. Applications are invited from already registered PhD fellows for academic year 2012 in Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine from any recognized IndianUniversityor Institute or research laboratory in Indiafor award of Prime Minister’s Fellowship for Doctoral Research for a maximum period of four years to do research on industry-relevant topics leading to awarding of PhD degree. Amount and Duration of Fellowship
  1. 100 Fellowships will be awarded every year, starting from 2012
  2. Duration of Fellowships will be four years
  3. Fellowship Amount will be approximately Rs 6 lakh per annum (government scholarship of approximately Rs 3 lakh per annum being equivalent to the prevailing norms for JRF / SRF. Sponsoring industry will match government scholarship)
  4. If selected to receive the Prime Minister’s Fellowship for Doctoral Research, the candidate will cease to receive any other scholarship which he / she may be receiving at present
  5. Continuation of the Fellowship for once selected candidates will be based on satisfactory performance certified jointly by industry and institutions on an annual basis
Eligibility
  1. Only those who have already enrolled and registered for PhD in 2012 in any recognised university or institution or research laboratory will be eligible to apply
  2. The registered PhD Fellows should have already identified a broad area of research which has practical relevance and industrial application
  3. They should also have identified an industry partner who is willing to sponsor their research
  4. The candidate and the proposed research topic should qualify on criteria of excellence and relevance
  5. The candidate should have proven outstanding track record
  6. The candidate should be willing to work in / with industry on specific projects
Methodology
  1. Applications will be submitted online
  2. A joint committee of SERB and CII, to be called Apex Council, will conduct transparent selection and monitoring of projects
  3. The availability of Prime Minister’s Fellowship Scheme for Doctoral Research will be advertised on the website of SERB and CII. Institutions may consider setting up appropriate mechanisms at their end to spread awareness among prospective candidates about this new Fellowship scheme

University Grants Commission invites applications for the award of 2000 fellowships for SC candidates and 667 fellowships for ST candidates for the year 2012-13 respectively under Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for SC/ST Candidates to undertake advanced studies and research in Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences in Indian universities & colleges for pursuing full time studies leading to M.Phil/Ph.D degree. This fellowship would be available only to those SC/ST candidates who are not availing themselves of the benefit of JRF of UGC-NET or UGC-CSIR NET.
Selections will be made on the basis of merit. The guidelines of the scheme, detailed terms and conditions of the fellowship, eligibility, state wise distribution of 2000 fellowships for SC candidates and 667  fellowships for ST candidates
may be  seen by logging on to the UGC website: www.ugc.ac.in.


Applications in the prescribed format may be submitted only through
on-line mode latest by 1 (One ) month’s time from the date of publication of the advertisement (non-extendable) by logging on to website: www.ugc.ac.in/rgnf
The decision of the Commission with regard to selection of candidates for the award of fellowships shall be final.
NOTE:-
1. Applications submitted only through online mode shall be entertained and no application submitted in hard copy shall be entertained or considered for award of fellowship under any circumstances whatsoever.
2. Record of the candidates, who have not been selected, shall not be preserved beyond three months from the date of declaration of results, which will be notified in the UGC website.


OBJECTIVE  
   
The scheme has been initiated keeping in view the social background of the candidates for the deprived section of the society and to provide them opportunity to undertake advanced studies and research. The objective of this award is to provide fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students belonging to SC/ST to pursue higher studies leading to M.Phil and Ph.D degrees in Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology.

ELIGIBILITY:  
   
The candidate should belong to SC/ST and should have passed the Post Graduate examination. The selection will be made on the basis of merit of the candidates. The candidate must get himself/herself registered for M.Phil./Ph.D at the first available opportunity but not later than within a period of two years from the receipt of award letter. This period is not extendable.However, the actual payment of fellowship will be made with effect from the date of approval of fellowship or date of joining whichever is later.
 

 
NATURE OF ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE UNDER THE SCHEME:  
   
The tenure of fellowship is initially for two years under the RGNF Scheme. Before expiry of this period, the work of the Fellow will be evaluated by a Committee of three members comprising of Head of the Department, Supervisor and one outside subject expert to be constituted by the concerned Department of the /University/Institution/College. If the research work is found satisfactory, his/her tenure will be extended further for a period of three years under the enhanced emoluments of the Rajiv Gandhi National Senior Research Fellowship (RGNSRF). The recommendation of the Committee shall be submitted to the UGC for upgradation to the level of RGNSRF. The work done and the time spent on scholarships or fellowships of any agency other than the UGC will not be taken into account while considering the proposals for enhancement in the value of fellowship. The fellowship may be withdrawn if the work is not considered satisfactory or the candidate fails in any of the examinations related to Ph.D. In case the work for the first two years is not found satisfactory, an additional year will be given to him/her for improvement. However, during this period he/she will be designated as Rajiv Gandhi National Junior Research Fellow. In such cases work will be evaluated again before third year of the tenure, and if improvement is found, the Fellow will get two more years under the RGNSRF. Thus, the total period of fellowship (RGNJRF and RGNSRF) is for five years, with no further provision of extension.

Tamilnadu State Eligibility Test 2012 - Answer Key

The SET 2012 answer key is hereby released for the paper - I (common for all subjects). In order to conduct the SET2012 exam in a systematic way, the booklets have been shuffled with different questions and answers.
Hence, the candidates who have taken the SET 2012 exams are advised to verify their respective answer keys as follows for Paper-I.
Candidates whose OMR sheets ending with the digits 1 or 6 are advised to verify the answer keys in 'A' Set of kets.

JEST 2013

Joint Entrance Screening Test 2013


Applicants seeking admission  for a Ph.D / Integrated Ph.D Programme in Physics or Theoretical Computer Science in  one  of the Participating Institutes may appear for the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) at one of the Exam Centers.
Participating Institutes have their own eligibility criteria. Applicants who are expected to complete their final examinations by August of each year are also eligible to appear for the JEST exam of that year.
Applicants must pay an application fee and register to appear for the exam.
To prepare for the exam, applicants should see the syllabi and sample question papers.

Ph.D. Programme
Physics:
  • M.Sc. in Physics or M.Sc. / M.E. / M.Tech. in related disciplines.
  • M.Sc. in Mathematics / Applied Physics / Applied Mathematics / Optics and Photonics / Instrumentation / Electronics will also be considered at IIA.
  • B.E. or B.Tech. will also be considered at IISc, IMSc, IUCAA, JNCASR, NCRA-TIFR RRI, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram and SNBNCBS.
  • Talented final year B.Sc. and first year M.Sc. in Physics / Electronics / Astronomy / Applied Mathematics students may also apply to be pre-selected for research scholarship at IUCAA.
  • MSc  in Physics, Engineering Physics or Applied Physics will also be considered at IPR.
Theoretical Computer Science:
  • M.Sc./ M.E. / M.Tech. / M.C.A. in Computer Science and related disciplines, and should be interested in the mathematical aspects of computer science. Visit website of IMSc for further details.
Integrated M.Sc. / M.Tech - Ph.D Programme 
  • At HRI, IISER-Pune,  SNBNCBS, and NCRA-TIFR candidates with a Bachelor's degree will also be considered for the integrated M.Sc., Ph.D. programme in Physics. 
  • At IMSc, graduates with Bachelor’s degree in science/ mathematics/ /statistics /computer science/information technology/Engineering will also be considered for admission in Physics and in Theoretical Computer Science, as part of an integrated Ph.D. programme. All candidates successful in the course work of this programme shall be awarded an M.Sc. degree.
  • At SNBNCBS, graduates with B.Sc. (Physics) / B.E. / B.Tech. degree will be considered for the integrated Post-B.Sc.-Ph.D. programme in subject areas mentioned above. 
  • At IIA, graduates with B.Sc. (Physics / Mathematics) / B.E. / B.Tech. in Electrical / Instrumentation / Engineering Physics / Electronics and Communications / Computer Science and Engineering / Optics and Photonics will be considered.
Integrated M.Tech - Ph.D. Programme at IIA

To apply by post, please send a request for printed application along with a self-addressed stamped envelop with postage of Rs 40 (Rupees forty only) affixed on it, by post to the following address:

Requests for application received after November 30, 2012 will not be considered.
To apply online, applicants must create an account using a valid e-mail ID. This account will remain valid from the time of account creation till one month after the date of declaration of results, for that year. Email ids are locked to the created account and to the application, and will be used for all communications with the applicants. Therefore, the email id should be active and must not be changed during this period.
To submit online application,  applicants must login to the created account and complete the application form. After submission,  an unique submission number will be issued. This number must be quoted by the applicant for any communication with the JEST authorities.
An Application Fee of Rs. 100 (Rs 50 for SC/ST applicants) is required to be paid into the Bank Account details provided here. 
The fee can be paid either before or after the online submission. The payment receipt/counterfoil/challan, including the applicants name and unique submission number, must be returned to the JEST authorities, before (date will be announced soon). ,  by either of the following means:
